A small detachment was all that was left of the wartime 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry. It included LTC Bieri, the battalion Sergeant Major, and the company commanders. They departed Vietnam with the battalion colors and company guidons, and flew to Dallas, Texas on April 1st. From there they traveled to the new home of the 1st Cavalry Division - Ft. Hood, Texas. CPT Adolf Carlson, the last commander of C 2/5 Cav in Vietnam, was privileged to carry our guidon to Ft. Hood.
Company C, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry was officially inactivated at Ft. Hood on July 31st, 1972. Today, it is a part of the 1st Cavalry Division again, serving as a mechanized infantry company.
