I would like to say "Happy Veteran's Day to all of our country's men and women who have served to make America what it is today "The Land of The Free". I have had the priviledge over the 47 years of my life to be acquainted with Thomas Talton and his family. Mr Talton is a proud Vietnam Vet and it an honor to have worked with him for the past several years. Not only I have work worked Mr. T. he also worked with my dad as a control operator with Alabama Power for 31 years. I have talked with him over the past few years about Vietman and have learned so much more than we were ever taught in school. I watched on the History Channel special on Vietman HD series and was totally engulfed. What our young men had to endure was almost unbelieveable. These brave young men were drafted and served our country with honor. I have talked to Mr. Talton (C 2nd/5th) about the History Channel series and cried the whole time he would tell me things that I though to be unbelievable, but true. I was deeply touched to be able to acutally talk to him about things that I never really imagine could happen in a major war. He is a walking miracle. In my mind he is a true hero and I love him and his family dearly. |

I was HHC 1st of the 5th from March 1969 to January 1971 (also briefly attached to HHC 3rd Brigade). Served at Tay Ninh, LZ Dolly, Quan Loi, and too many LZs out of Quan Loi to remember names (will appreciate any help on those). Haven't found on online connection to the 1/5th yet, and would appreciate any leads. 2nd/5th is the closest I've found. Thanks, Carl 'Rockett' Hockett |

I was on LZ Rita Feb 23 1968 when it was attacked after 1Am. I was in a mortar platoon with Echo Co, 2/8th. I remember 2/5 company arrived that afternoon I believe just in time to participate in the nights events. I didn't realize you'all had 2 wounded. I know there were several NVA body parts in the wire the next morning. |
